8 Great Maternity Robes
July 13, 2016
If you’ve ever Googled the question, “What should I pack in my hospital bag?” you’ve probably noticed that a great robe is almost always mentioned. During my first pregnancy, I underestimated the importance of such a robe. Luckily, my mom hooked me up with a very comfy, cute and functional robe that became my “mom uniform” for the entirety of my maternity leave. There’s also a strong possibility that I still wear it all the time… probably because it’s awesome.
But what makes a great pregnancy/maternity robe? Obviously, it varies from person to person, but I tend to consider the following three things:
Is it functional?
While you don’t necessarily have to buy a “maternity” robe, you do want to make sure that you find an option that has the functionality you want. Maybe you want it to be a certain length, be machine washable, or to have pockets, etc. Evaluate what you think is important, and find an option that fits the bill.
Is it comfortable?
Comfort is key! I have sensitive skin, and found that jersey fabric is the best option for me. I also prefer a light-to-medium weight fabric, because I like to be able to sleep in my robe (especially in the hospital) and don’t want it to be too warm or too bulky. Find out which fabric and fabric weight are ideal for you, and factor that into your selection.
Do I feel good in it?
When you’re in the market for a maternity robe, you’re probably in the process of growing a human. Said process can be uncomfortable and challenging at times, so why not pick a robe that you feel confident in? Whether it’s a cute pattern, or a little embellishment, these subtle details can go a long way to help you feel like the empowered, amazing woman that you are.
To help you on your robe quest, I’ve culled eight great robes, fit for pregnancy and beyond. I hope you find something you like!
