Hey there, my name is Shawna and I am one of the authors over at Arrows & Apricots and I am a first time mama to a little sweetheart named Nixon.
Now, I will be the first to admit that I tend to over-stress and get anxiety about a lot of things in life but nothing so far has compared to the stress I felt the day we brought home Nixon and were on our own. No monitors, no nurses, just us. I was so nervous about him sleeping at night or for naps that I would sit there and stare at him or lightly lay my hand on his chest to make sure he was still breathing. I knew I had to do something before I drove myself crazy with the lack of sleep I was getting because I was so focused on watching him sleep. I came across the Owlet Smart Sock and I knew that was exactly what I needed. It uses pulse oximetry technology which is the same as what the hospitals use. It tracks baby’s heart rate and oxygen level as they’re sleeping and sends those levels straight to your smart phone so you know exactly where they are at. I love having those live readings right there on my cell phone. It eases my anxiety knowing that if his oxygen levels or heart rate start dropping that it’s designed to notify me on both my phone and by the base of the monitor. I also love how easy the Smart Sock is to put on and how user friendly the base and the app are to set up. The different light colors on the base and the sounds it uses to notify you of different scenarios are super easy to understand so you always know right away if you need to adjust the Smart Sock or charge it, etc. Don’t even get me started on how helpful the Owlet team is. If you have a question you can just send them a message through the app and they answer you back right away! I loved that!
Nixon is now a very active 5 month old and putting him down at night is getting to be somewhat of an event. He has begun rolling over in his crib and as hard as I try to keep him on his back to sleep, he just rolls right to his belly every time. This panicked me at first because I know it’s not ideal but I’ve had to accept it and it gives me so much more comfort that I am able to watch over him with the Owlet Smart Sock while he sleeps on his belly. He is wigglier than ever these days too so I just make sure I strap the Smart Sock on really well and then he always sleeps in footy pajamas to ensure that it stays on for accurate readings. If it slips off at all or isn’t on correctly the monitor is designed to let me know right away.
I also love how clean and compact the base is. It fits on my nightstand right along with my decorations. There are minimal cords so it doesn’t clutter up my space. Which is something that really stresses me out too with other products so thats a huge plus!
The Owlet Smart Sock has become an important part of our family! I can’t even imagine not having it around now. I’ll definitely be using it as long as possible with this little boy!
