Baby Trends for 2017
December 31, 2016
Is it just me, or did 2016 fly by? Since the New Year is almost here, we need to discuss all of the baby-related trends for 2017. From baby names to new products and more, here is your one-stop list for everything new for parents-to-be of 2017:
According to the experts at BabyNameWizard.com, original sounding names that still feel comfortable are going to dominate 2017. Think of classic names that aren’t as widely used, or unique names that have classic origins. Also, the shorter name trend that we saw in 2016 will continue on, so expect more names like Noah, Liam, Mia and Ava next year.
Literary romantic names like Ophelia, Genevieve and Arabella are on the rise for girls, and names that end in “o,” like Leo and Otto are on the rise for boys. Expect more common words as names, like Oak, Fox and Eden, as well as more classically male names used for females.
As of this writing, the official Pantone color of the year has not yet been announced; however, we have Pantone’s top ten colors for spring 2017 (see palette above). Judging from these selections, there’s a good mix of bright, vibrant colors (Greenery, Flame, Pink Yarrow) and more muted shades (Pale Dogwood and Hazelnut) with a little bit of nature influence thrown in. My gut is telling me that Pantone will go with a green shade (so maybe Kale, or something like it) for its number one pick.
There are some really cool products coming down the pipeline in 2017. In my opinion, the coolest item is the Project Nursery Parent + Baby SmartBand, which makes its debut in February 2017, and will retail for around $150. If you love your Fitbit or other similar devices, you’re going to love this! Not only does this device track your steps, calories burned, hydration, sleep, etc., it also tracks breastfeeding and bottle feeding, pumping, vitamins/medications, diapers changes, etc. The band also syncs with iOS and Android apps, allowing users to receive notifications for texts, calls and in-app notifications.
Other cool products include this amazing high chair (which launches in the US in early 2017), this three-stage activity center and a newly designed rocker by Fisher-Price called the Revolve ($130), which will be available in January.
Last but not least, Owlet. Even though this is not a “new” product, it’s still worth mentioning. The Owlet Smart Sock is designed to notify you if your baby’s oxygen level drops out of range. You can also view your baby’s oxygen level and heart rate right on your smart phone! You can get yours here.
Here’s to a great 2017!
