The Great Unboxing: What Comes With the Owlet?
April 20, 2016
It’s been a long journey. When you first heard about it from a friend, you didn’t believe it. Then came the research, and it started to sink in. Finally, you took that leap of faith and ordered it. Today it’s finally here: welcome home, Owlet! So the first question you have is, what comes with the Owlet?
After opening the box and seeing the first sock, you’ll find all the other important pieces that give Owlet its above-and-beyond status.
You already know that Owlet comes with three different sock sizes, so it can keep up with your growing baby’s growing feet. The newborn size 1 comes in both a left- and right-footed sock so parents can alternate feet. Check out this article for more details on using your Smart Sock and ensuring a proper fit. (If needed, you can order a size 4 sock—the largest size available—here.)
When you open your Owlet box, the first thing you will see on display is the size 2 sock, with the sock electronics in it. The sock electronics can be moved from each sock size as your little one grows. The sock electronics might be small, but they’re mighty! The sock electronics have an 18-hour battery life. Plug the sock into the Base Station when your little one wakes up, so it can re-charge for the next nap or for nighttime.
The Base Station might look like a simple disk at first, but it’s really so much more! The Base Station features different colored lights designed to notify you. Sock too far from the base station? Hello, blue light. Sock unable to get a good reading from your little nugget? Cue the yellow light. The Base Station is your primary notification system, so we wanted to make sure it gave you information to help in any scenario without causing panic. The Base Station is designed to flash red lights and sound a notification you if your baby’s oxygen level or heart rate is out of range. Read more on the different notifications, what they sound like and what they mean here.
The paper manual inside the box will direct you to download the iOS app (Android users, your app is coming June 6, 2016!). The app will allow you to see your little one’s live heart rate and oxygen levels as they sleep. How cool is that? Some parents even got to the point where they know when their little one is going to wake up, just by watching their vitals change. Can you imagine knowing when your baby is going to wake up, so you can be there before they start crying?
But wait. What if your phone dies or your Wi-Fi goes down? Rest assured that Owlet’s Base Station is your primary notification system and designed to notify you if your baby’s oxygen level falls out of range, no matter the condition of your smartphone.
