Hello! My name is Katelin and I am a first time mom to my cute little 5 month old, Ollie. I love being a stay at home mom and getting to spend every day with my little man and getting to watch him grow! It’s the greatest thing in the world but along with such a huge responsibility comes lots of worrisome thoughts and fears. I thought I was worried during my pregnancy and I just remember thinking I can stop worrying so much once he actually gets here but it was the exact opposite! When we came home from the hospital I remember being extremely nervous and scared especially during the night. When Ollie would wake up during the night I would feed him and lots of times he would fall asleep on my chest and then I would finally move him to his cradle. I would then wake up multiple times in between feedings and have to check on him to make sure that he was still breathing. After the first month I finally began to relax a bit more and I didn’t wake up so much during the night but it was a rough, exhausting few weeks.
There are already so many other things to learn and worry about with a new baby, their oxygen level (especially at night) shouldn’t have to be one of them! This is where the Owlet Monitor comes into play. I heard about the Owlet Monitor through some other first time mommy friends and it was definitely something that I knew I needed to try! The Owlet is a sock (it fits under one piece jammies!) that you place on your infant’s foot so that it can track their heart rate and oxygen levels. The monitor uses pulse oximetry which is a small light that shines through their skin to measure blood flow and oxygen levels. The monitor has a base station which links to your phone through the wifi, it is designed to notify you if their levels are too high or too low. I’m not the most tech savvy person but even I was able to set it up which is saying a lot!
Once I started using the Owlet Monitor I felt like I could actually relax and that peace of mind at night truly helped me to sleep better! I love that the monitor is linked through the Owlet app on your phone because I always have mine with me. I don’t have to worry when I’m downstairs because I periodically check the app to make sure Ollie’s stats are in range and if they weren’t the Owlet is designed to notify me. A while ago our little man had a mild cold and even though it was just a cough I still, of course, worried a ton. Having the Owlet was so nice because I didn’t have to worry as much about his oxygen levels. This kind of peace of mind is priceless and I am quick to recommend this must have product to those I know, especially new moms! This is something that I am excited to have with my next babies, especially during those first few weeks and months!
