Throwback Thursday | The Owlet Smart Sock

May 26, 2016

We’re feeling a little nostalgic today so here’s a good ol’ #tbt to when the Owlet Smart Sock looked like this!

As you can see, our sock has come a long way over the past few years! We’re always trying to improve parents’ experiences with Owlet, and making the sock more nursery-friendly was on the top of our list back in the day. In the original design the pulse oximeter was located on the bottom of the foot just like in our current sock. But the Sock Electronics (the white square in this picture) wrapped around baby’s ankle. Can you believe that big white square is just the battery and electronics?!

With a little tweak in design and a lot of hard work we were (thankfully) able to miniaturize the electronics and the current sock design fell into place. The new design wasn’t just about miniaturizing sock electronics though! We wanted to make sure our sock was as comfortable, discreet and cuddly as possible. Cue the new Owlet Smart Sock!

We made the current version of the Smart Sock with your baby’s sensitive skin in mind. Ask any parent who uses an Owlet and they’ll tell you it’s made from the softest fabric. Not to mention it’s made out of organic cotton and hypoallergenic. We also kept mom in mind with the new design and made the sock machine washable (just don’t forget to take out the sock electronics before washing)!

Parents also love the new version of the sock because it’s discreet and fits under footie pj’s and every-day socks. We’ve also received feedback from parents that it’s easy to put Owlet on their sleeping baby without waking them up. More reasons to love the new sock design!

Our little sock has come so far, but we’re not done making changes to benefit our parents and their families. We’ll keep working day-after-day to make sure we’re providing parents with the best Owlet experience possible. So here’s to throwback thursday and making improvements!

The Smart Sock comfortably wraps around your baby’s foot to track heart rate and oxygen levels using clinically-proven pulse oximetry. The base station glows green to let you know everything is okay but will notify with lights and sounds if something appears to be wrong.

So we absolutely love our Owlet! However, after about 8 weeks of use, the velcro that wraps around the bottom of the booty sock has worn to the point that it doesn’t stick well. We’ve had two yellow alarms the past few nights because the bottom booty velcro strap came off and readings were poor or the booty came off completely. The back velcro strap is still going strong…it’s just the bottom one. Help!

Hi Jenna! We’re sorry to hear about those yellow alerts! If you will email us at contact@owletcare.com we can see what we can do about getting you a new sock shipped out to you. 🙂
